    Overview

    Our Duet is a 128 core, large memory, rack-mountable, Linux Departmental Supercomputer.

    We call our Duet a 'Departmental Supercomputer' because it is very affordable – ideal for scientists, researchers and engineering departments. We cost less because our Duets do not depend on high cost proprietary hardware. We designed our Duets to take advantage of the latest in off-the-shelf technology.  

    Our Duet Departmental Supercomputer is a Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) high performance computer with a large shared-memory. Each Duet Departmental Supercomputer has eight 16-core next-generation AMD Opteron™ 6200 series processors (128 cores total) on two 2U server nodes interconnected with 40 Gbps Infiniband. [No expensive Infiniband switch is needed!] Our Duet Departmental Supercomputer is available in two different shared memory configurations:

  • Our Duet Departmental Supercomputer is rated at 1 TeraFLOPS (peak theoretical).

    To programmers, our Duet Departmental Supercomputer looks just like a single huge-memory Linux box. Programmers can use standard threading packages to get access to all 128 CPUs and up to 1 TeraBytes of memory. With Duet, programmers need not worry about message passing interface programming, which is what supercomputing clusters and other limited memory systems demand. There's also no need to build complex file-access program components; programmers can just read a big dataset into memory and access it as an array.
